 Coffee and Coffee Makers
« Thread Started on May 27, 2009, 1:53pm »

Okay - we got a coffee maker with a stainless steel thermal jug, I hate it, the coffee is bitter and it doesn't stay warm. So, got another one a regular type Cuisinart, coffee isn't much better but at least it's hot. I do not like Folgers or Maxwell house preferring Tim Hortons or Melitta but they are pricey... So, I bought a coffee grinder and Melitta beans (pricey ugg ) ground the beans made my coffee - surprise - not a whole lot better either..

So, what's your favourite coffee....

Nescafe instant, ;D it's easier and we don't drink a lot of coffee.

I've had many coffee makers over the years but finally went back to
a stainless steel percolator. We like tim horton's too but as you say
it's pricey. Lately we've been trying PC dark roast and so far so good.

Well, I haven't found much difference, if at all, from grinding the beans fresh in the morning, so back to the drawing board. Maybe I will go into town today and get some beans from a local coffee house in town.

We've tried them all, and have settled quite happily on a cheap $30 drip coffee maker using Costco Kirkland brand ground coffee. I find Max house and Folger's don't have much eye opener ability, Kirkland will give you the jolt you need. :P

Thanks DT, I don't have a Costco membership, but I know someone who does, next time I see them I'll ask them to get some for me.

I have been using Tradition coffee for about 3 years and have never had a bad lot yet..I had tried them all, Maxwell House, Melita, etc., and about every 2nd can was flat and tasteless. When you open a new package/tin, the aroma should be strong. If not, the coffee tastes like dishwater. And I buy the cheapest coffee maker I can find, use it until it doesn't keep the coffee hot any more, then buy another one. The cheapest around here is about $13.00 plus tax.

My absolute favourite is Taster's Choice instant. I stock up when it is on sale and I think it is on for $4.99 this week at Food Basics.

Nabob is my favourite for brewing. My Dutch friend serves it everytime I visit. She brews it strong and serves it with half hot milk, half water. Mmmmm, good.
