Didn't want to interrupt the flow of poetry so opened a book page.
I like mostly true to life books and have just finished a book on the United Empire Loyalists. It was very good and I learned a lot from it. My husbands side were UEL. up from PA. into Ontario. One thing that I didn't realise was how badly they were treated once the Patriots in the U.S decided that the country had to give up any connection to England. They burned the Loyalists homes and barns and everything in them, and took their land, they beat them. Many people walked the whole distance from wherever they were in the States, to cross the border. All because they were Tories. They were given free land and supported by the gov. until they got their seed planted and cabin built. The women went from a nice farm with lots to eat to a wilderness with nothing. They felt the worst. It was an interesting read.

I just finished reading Sail, a book by James Patterson.
The Dunne family go on a sailing vacation hoping to improve their family relationships and become closer. Danger lurks and someone wants to make sure the Dunne family never return.
Lots of plot twists and chills in the pages of this book.

I see Dan Brown has his latest effort "The Symbol" now on the shelves and set to make him another million or two.... This time the shenanigans are said to feature Freemasonry, in which I have a vested interest.
I shall give it a spin...whenever. It will just have to take it's turn after the John leCarre novel I started on the plane to Canada in early August and has been neglected in favour of this machine.

I'm on a waiting list for that one, don't think it's in yet... People are too easily sucked in to believing fiction as reality doncha think?

I've been reading some Kay Hooper books, they are decent mysteries with psychics involved, but am starting to tire of them as they do become much the same after a while. So... back to the library.

I got bored with D.B. Da Vinci's harum scarum chases as I do in movies/TV films, but an interesting, if unoriginal concept.
I certainly take your point FG re "faction" and could take your premise one stage further but am prohibited. No doubt DB has consulted the reams of stuff on the web allegedly 'telling all', and spoken to disaffected people for his research.

He does do research for sure, but as far as I'm concerned the premise of his books are strictly fiction. Enjoyable adventures but that's all...

Have started DB's the"Lost Symbol" and have read the first 4 short chapters. Certanly not UNputdownable. I, of course, reserve judgement at this stage.

Did you get it finished Jack?
I just finished Patterson's Swimsuit - it was okay but not up to his others IMO.
